Wen Giving project partner Mission for Vision has been awarded the 2024 Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health.
The Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health is presented annually to an individual, team, or organisation that has made significant contributions to the advancement of public health related to vision and eye health at the community, state, national, and/or international level.
The award is instituted in memory of Jenny Pomeroy, who served as the CEO of Prevent Blindness from 1996 until 2013 and brought a passionate understanding of public health to her work and the organisation’s mission.
Wen Giving supports the work of Mission for Vision in India by providing infrastructure, training and financial support to allow Mission for Vision to continue its work in providing high-quality eye health care to the most disadvantaged people and eradicate preventable blindness.
Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in people aged over 50 in India. Eye procedures provided by Mission for Vision through the support of Wen Giving turn this dire statistic around and improve the quality of life of this vulnerable group.
“This international recognition is a testimony of the immense value of partnerships and all that it can achieve for our communities through our common goals and beliefs,” Mission for Vision Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Kurian said.
